Design Spotlight: The Lien Project

Back

Sometimes “minimalism” conjures visions of spartan spaces stripped of personality. While the concept of minimalism does entail moderation, it also encompasses elegance, understatement, and grace. This month’s Design Spotlight, designed by Kim Foutz, boldly embodies that minimalist style.

Kim’s crisp palette of white and dark gray creates a streamlined modern feel. Perimeter cabinets in all white establish a look of uncluttered organization, while the contrasting island cabinets in Storm Gray create the anchoring focal point. Note the harmonious balance created by dark hardware pulls at the perimeter and the softly brushed brass hardware used on the island.

Muted veins of tonal hues run through the seemingly endless lengths of white Quartzite counters throughout the kitchen, contributing to the fresh ambiance. Opting to carry the Quartzite up the wall in lieu of a tile splash keeps the look seamless and clean, and the waterfall application down one side of the island adds a dramatic touch.

The large counter-height peninsula provides comfortable seating for six—perfect for nightly meals, homework projects, or drinks and charcuterie with friends.

Though minimalist may be the mood, this kitchen doesn’t skimp on storage, with floor-to-ceiling drawers and cabinets on not one but two walls. Naturally stained open shelving holds space for barware, cookbooks, plants, or other collectibles. Once again, the Quartzite-faced wall ties everything together with simple elegance.

Statement-making clear glass globe pendants over the island add drama without fuss—the ultimate chef’s kiss in this beautiful kitchen design.

As always, it’s the details that make the difference in a Caruso kitchen design. For example, plain white quartz would be too simple when used in such abundance, but the stunning striations in this Quartzite contain just enough movement to create interest without becoming overwhelming.

Another important detail, cabinet hardware, must be perfectly aligned when installed.

Some of the hidden surprises in this kitchen include appliance garages to hide the toaster, food processor, and coffee maker. Keep the convenience of countertop appliances without the cluttered look!

Now you don’t:

And rather than interrupt the flow of the beautiful Quartzite splash with an electrical outlet, we opted to install pop-up electrical outlets which can be unobtrusive when not in use.

With its light, welcoming glow, the Lien kitchen is anything but stark. Kim’s minimalist design delivers maximal style!
