When clients are in the thick kitchen remodel prep they often don’t remember to take “Before” pictures, but when they do, it’s so gratifying to compare them with the finished project! In the case of the Stickling’s home in Golden, Caruso designer Morgan Ferguson transformed their kitchen into a space that feels much more open, modern, and bright—without having to demo a single wall.
With a great footprint as a starting point, Morgan recommended Alabaster painted perimeter cabinets in a classic Mission style from Caruso’s Bridgewood line. Taking the cabinets all the way to the ceiling creates an elongated, expansive feel in the room.
Painting the ceiling and walls of the kitchen in a creamy white also contributes to the open, bright look, while defining the area as separate from the great room, which is painted in a neutral earthy tone.
A massive center island topped with gently veined Pentel Volakano quartz serves as prep, serving, and eating space—featuring as a beautiful centerpiece in the room. The contrast of the island’s Black Tea painted cabinets provides a striking balance to the surrounding swath of white.
The darker cabinets are also showcased along the back wall of the kitchen, creating a 21st century China hutch, complete with pull-out shelving and a built-in beverage center.
Glass-fronted cabinets at its center add a touch of luxe.
Brushed stainless steel appliances pair well with the kitchen’s modern take on black and white. The refrigerator and double wall ovens stayed in the same general location as they were prior to renovation.
Upgrading the existing vented microwave above the cooktop to a sleek stainless range hood amps up the style statement,
as does the minimalist induction cooktop that’s so slim it almost appears to be part of the countertop.
The addition of glossy textured grey subway tile above the cooktop and at the coffee bar is both sophisticated and practical.
The final touch? Choosing the right cabinet hardware is like selecting the proper accessories for a special outfit. It shouldn’t detract from the overall design—they should add balance and distinction.
Morgan chose wisely here, selecting gleaming nickel for the darker cabinets and matte black pulls for their white counterparts.
