Design Spotlight: The Stoll Project | Designed by Susie Killion & Kim Foutz

If walls could talk, we know the ones in this kitchen would be singing about their recent top-to-bottom remodel. Wrapped in warm shades of oyster and creamy white, the cheerful space seems to say, “Come on in—we’re happy you’re here!”

Designers Kim Foutz and Susie Killion were fortunate to have such a great footprint to work with in this home. Three walls of over-sized picture windows provide panoramic views with radiant Colorado sunshine, and nothing was changed structurally in the remodel. Even the original flooring was left in place, as the wide wood planks lend character and warmth.

The classic Covington door style of the Dura Supreme cabinetry works well throughout the kitchen, topped with an elegant ceiling-height crown moulding. The black center island adds a touch of drama, echoing that of the stately range hood.

As the window walls dictate the use of lower cabinets only in those areas, ceiling-height cabinets installed throughout the rest of the kitchen maximize available storage space.

Emtek satin brass cabinet pulls add an understated note of sophistry, and the choice to go with a longer than standard style carries a strong design statement throughout the space.

Another strong design choice is made in the installation of an extra thick quartz slab on the island. The pleasing bulk of the countertop is balanced by the visual weight of its black base, and the substantial island becomes a focal point in the room.

Seen from this angle, the stone’s unique veining shows to best advantage, playing well with the muted tones in the opposite-facing counter-to-ceiling tile splash along the range wall.

A simple, tailored window valence reads texturally, contributing to the overall monochromatic scheme.

Expense was not spared when it came to appliance selection. The stunning six burner slide-in Wolf gas range with its classic red knobs stands ready for the next family gathering.

The upscale refrigerator looks like part of the cabinetry with matching panels and hardware,

and a sleek Wolf microwave is tucked conveniently into the island at counter height.

In the adjacent family room, more cheerful light illuminates the space from an overhead skylight.

White cabinetry carries into the family living area, unifying the space as a whole and providing additional storage.

Installed as it is in this room, the cabinet could almost pass as a freestanding piece of furniture—though if you look closely, you’ll spot the pleasing tile splash.

And one last surprise? A splashy butler’s pantry outfitted in handsome black gets royal treatment with glass-fronted cabinets.
